Honey Garlic Salmon Recipe

Hey sunflowers, I hope you’ve all been keeping safe and healthy in these trying times we are facing. 2020 is surely giving us a run for our money and has taken many turns for the worst – and it’s only March! Anyway, I thought I’d drop one of my favorite little recipes here, and maybe you can make it for yourself while you’re in quarantine and switch it up a little, lol.

I always chuckle to myself about the irony of the fact that I come from a landlocked country but you’d think I grew up eating seafood, with the love I have for it! I guess I just have a pallet for adventure, and I must say it’s been blessed living in the Maritimes and having fresh seafood available whenever I please.

Salmon is one of the delicacies I’ve fallen in love with, mostly because it’s bursting with flavour even before you do anything to it. However, it can be an intimidating dish to prepare, but this really simple and delicious recipe is what I use to prepare mine! The recipe is for 5 pieces of salmon, and I got mine from Costco. The salmon pieces are each separated into their own pockets, making it easy to defrost only the specific number of pieces you will be cooking at that time.

I don’t usually measure things out when I cook, but I know most people prefer exact quantities when following a recipe so here is an estimate of what I used.

You will need:

  • 5 tablespoons of butter
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 3 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • Minced garlic
  • Paprika
  • Salt to taste

Preheat your oven to 190 degrees celcius (375 F). Lay your salmon in an oven-safe dish on top of some foil paper. Start by seasoning the salmon with salt, paprika, and cayenne pepper (or whatever seasoning of your choice). In a bowl, spoon your butter and minced garlic and heat together in the microwave until the butter has completely melted. Now add the honey, lemon juice, and soy sauce and mix these together into a sauce.

I added some brussels sprouts to my salmon as a side. You can also add whatever small veggies you enjoy, like cherry tomatoes – I just didn’t have any. Next, pour your sauce over the dish and cover it completely with foil paper. Place in the oven to bake for about 18 minutes without lifting the foil. Afterwards, if you want a crisp finish, remove the foil and switch to grill for a few minutes and let the salmon caramelise. All your salmon really needs is 20 minutes in the oven and it’s good to go!

Below are the final results. I usually enjoy my salmon with some potatoes and salad, or rice on the side, and it’s delicious! Let me know if you try this recipe and if you added any variations that worked out for you! As always, thanks for reading loves; any comments and feedback are always welcome!
